Suspect in NC trooper shooting indicted on federal charges

DURHAM, N.C. -

The man accused of shooting a North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper in February was indicted this week on federal charges. 

Mikel Brady, 23, was indicted on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. 

Brady is charged with attempted murder assault with a deadly weapon and assault on a law enforcement officer in the Feb. 18 shooting of Trooper Michael Potts. 

Potts was shot four times during a routine traffic stop on Highway 70 in Durham 

Brady's pregnant girlfriend, Lyndsey Smith, 21, was arrested and charged with being an accessory after the fact in connection with shooting.
