CLAYTON, N.C. -
A high school teacher in Johnston County was charged with having a sexual relationship with a student at his house.

The Johnston County Sheriff's Office said they began to investigate accusations into a sexual relationship involving Eric Lamar Minter, of Clayton, and a student on June 4. The sheriff's office notified the school of the investigation.

According to Johnston County Schools, Minter, 39, worked as a business education leader at Smithfield-Selma High School from August 2010 until his employment with the school system ended June 12.

"The school system takes seriously any allegations related to the safety and well-being of its students.  The administration responded promptly upon notification of these concerns, which included reporting the allegations to law enforcement," Johnston County Schools said in a statement.

The sheriff's office said Minter turned himself in at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and was charged with one count of sexual offense with a student. Minter was released after posting a $50,000 bond.
