GOLDSBORO, N.C. -

A 15-month-old boy whose body was found in a plastic bag along a North Carolina road in March was severely malnourished and died of neglect.

Those findings were part of an autopsy report released Friday in the death of Matthew Theurer.

The boy's body was found in March along a Columbus County road. His father, also named Matthew Theurer, has been charged with voluntary manslaughter, negligent homicide and murder.

The report also notes the boy had recently come to live with his father and was often left alone for 12 hours a day while his father worked as a senior airman at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

The father was arrested in March. The Goldsboro News-Argus reports that he will face a court martial, but no date has been set.
