Families of NC WWI soldiers to accept medals

Posted: Updated:

Nearly 95 years after they earned the recognition, soldiers who served in World War I will be honored for their service.
N.C. Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Greg Lusk will join Rep. Renee Ellmers and members of the General Assembly for a presentation ceremony scheduled for Saturday in the Old House Chamber of the State Capitol. Five families will represent the soldiers who will be honored.
Historical re-enactors wearing World War I-period uniforms and a color guard from Western Harnett High School will also participate.
The presentations are made possible through the work of the Veterans Legacy Foundation, a Harnett County-based non-profit organization that specializes in researching the records of former military members and seeing they receive awards they earned but were never presented.
