Hammer-wielding Fayetteville robber arrested

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

The hammer-wielding, moped-riding suspect wanted in connection multiple robberies across Fayetteville in the last week was arrested by authorities late Thursday night.

The suspect has been identified as Jill Smith, 45, of Biscoe, N.C.

Smith was wanted in connection with multiple robberies across Fayetteville since July 5. Police believe Smith entered a Payless Shoe store on Ramsey Street Friday, July 5 just before 7 p.m. and approached the clerk armed with a hammer and demanded money from the register.

On July 7, another robbery occurred at the Family Dollar on Bragg Boulevard shortly before 9 p.m. The robber was armed with a hammer and was wearing a motorcycle helmet with a clear face shield and sunglasses. She demanded money from the clerk at the register.

On July 8 at approximately 6:45 a.m., believe Smith, wearing a dark-colored helmet with a clear face shield, entered the Burger King at 2820 Bragg Boulevard armed with a hammer. She demanded money from the safe. Employees were able to get away from the suspect without being harmed. She was seen fleeing the restaurant on a black moped.

Smith has been charged with three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, one count of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and one count of obtaining property by false pretense.

Smith is currently being processed in Cumberland County Detention Center.
