Slideshow: Car crashes into Greenville Mall

Posted: Updated:

There are new details about a driver who crashed into the Greenville Mall Friday morning.

Greenville Police say it happened just before 7:30 a.m.

Mall manager Nathan Kelly tells 9 On Your Side, a woman was trying to pull into a parking space when she accidentally pressed the gas pedal instead of the brake.

The car crashed through the front wall of the building facing Greenville Blvd. with the back end sticking halfway out.

Kelly says while the stores inside the mall don't open until 10a.m., the mall doors open at 7a.m. for people to use the indoor facility for walking.  He believes the woman involved in the crash was a frequent visitor.

EMS transported the woman to Vidant Medical Center for a checkup.  Kelly says she seemed shaken up but not seriously injured.  No one else was in the car with her at the time.

A tow truck was called in to pull the car out and crews are working to seal the hole.
