GOLDSBORO, N.C. -

A verbal argument resulted in a man being hit in the face and head with a hammer in Goldsboro.

Just before 2 p.m. Saturday, Goldsboro police responded to the 900 block of N. John Street regarding a male subject who had been hit in the head with a claw hammer.

After investigating the incident, police identified the suspect as Jerry Parks, 39, of Goldsboro. Police says Parks struck the victim, Leodis Hamlin Jr., 39, after the two had a verbal argument. The argument turned into a physical altercation, and Hamlin was struck once in the face and once in the forehead with a hammer.

While Hamlin laid on the ground unconscious, police say Parks then stomped on him several times before fleeing the scene.

Hamlin was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for his injuries then air lifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Police are looking for Parks, and anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call the Goldsboro Police Department at 919-580-4213 or Crime Stoppers at 919-735-2255.
