Informational meetings about a tentative labor agreement with Goodyear union members will take place next week at Pine Forest Middle School.
The Fayetteville Observer reports the meetings will take place on Aug. 7 and 9 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Last week, Fayetteville's office of the United Steel Workers, the local 959, sent notices to members telling them to prepare for financial hardships if an agreement could not be reached. But On Saturday, the USW reached a tentative deal with the tire and rubber company.
The new contract covers about 8,000 employees at six U.S. plants, including the 2,500 hourly and salaried employees in Fayetteville, the newspaper reported.
A key point in the agreement is that all six Goodyear plants in North America stay open for the next four years.
In a press release posted online by Goodyear's corporate office, Jim Allen, Goodyear's Vice President Global Labor Relations, and Tom Conway, USW Vice President Administration, say the tentative agreement "must be approved by a majority of the six local unions representing a majority of the membership."
The Fayetteville Observer reports the local 959 has 1,965 union members.
