BEAUFORT, N.C. -

A Havelock man is behind bars after police say he led them on a chase from Cape Carteret to Havelock on Tuesday.

Don Miller, Cape Carteret police chief, said his officers arrested 33-year-old Kevin Andrew Arje after he allegedly refused to pull over for speeding. He was reportedly going 55 mph in a 35 mph zone eastbound on Highway 24 in Cape Carteret.

When the officer turned on his blue lights, Arje wouldn't pull over, said Miller, instead leading officers on a chase from Cape Carteret to Havelock, where Craven County deputies and Havelock police put stop sticks out to stop Arje.

But even after he blew his tires out, Arje kept going, said Miller, and headed back toward the coast before finally pulling over in Newport.

The chase last 30-45 minutes, said Miller.

Arje was charged with failure to heed to blue lights, speeding, driving with license revoked, and resist, obstruct, delay. He was booked into the Carteret County jail on a $1,500 bond.
