3 box office No. 1s for films shot in Wilmington

Posted: Updated:
WILMINGTON, N.C. -

It's been a good year for so-called Hollywood East.

For the first time, three films shot in the Wilmington area have hit No. 1 at the box office in the same year.

The Star News of Wilmington reports "The Conjuring," ''Iron Man 3" and "Safe Haven" all were No. 1 at the box office for a time.

University of North Carolina Wilmington's film studies chairman Dave Monahan says it's amazing that the area has had so many No. 1 hits.

And there's a chance for a fourth.

"We're the Millers," a raunchy comedy starring Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis, is being released this week.
