RALEIGH, N.C. -

Police say the body of 23-year-old Weston Vandemerwe was located just off westbound I-40 near Hammond Road in Raleigh.

The body was located Tuesday around 3:24 p.m. by DOT crews who were painting the road and cleaning the shoulder.

Police say Vandemerwe's death is being investigated as a hit-and-run collision.

Vandemerwe was last seen around 1:30 a.m. Saturday near The Oxford bar on Fayetteville Street, not far from Memorial Auditorium.

Vandemerwe, a recent East Carolina University graduate who attended high school in Apex, left The Oxford with his girlfriend, who said Vandemerwe had been drinking. Kaitlyn Holmes added that the two got into an argument outside the bar, which led to her leaving in a cab.

Holmes said the last she saw him, Vandemerwe was walking down the street.

The family was offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to him being found.
