Friends, family of shooting victim hold vigil

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. -

Family and friends gathered to remember Cierra Clark and other victims of violence on the corner of 14th and Farmville Boulevard in Greenville Wednesday evening.

That's just a few blocks from where someone shot and killed the 26-year-old over the weekend.

Clark was driving on Tyson Street early Saturday morning, when police say a car pulled up and someone shot her. Clark's car then crossed the intersection and hit a pole.

She was taken to the hospital where she died.

Clark's mother says she was working on her Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and worked at Aramark Catering at ECU.

"She told me she'd see me tomorrow. And I didn't see her," her mother told 9 On Your Side. "This is my baby. Somebody killed my baby that was innocent."

After the vigil, those who gathered rallied through the neighborhood.  The were calling for an end to the violence.

Greenville Police say one woman is dead after an early morning shooting at an intersection.

Police say they got the call about shots fired near the intersection of West 14th Avenue and Tyson Street just before 3:30 Saturday morning.

Police say two cars were stopped near the intersection when someone started shooting. Police say one car took off, and the other car hit a signal pole near the intersection.

Police say 26-year-old Ceira Michelle Clark was shot inside the car when it hit the light pole. She was transported to Vidant Medical Center, where she later died.

Clark's family says she was shot in her left side and the bullet eventually hit her heart.

Clark's mother, Mary Clark, says her daughter did everything right, and doesn't know why someone would do this to her.

"She had a good career going for her. [She was] modeling, she's in school about to get her bachelor's,  and she working at ECU. She was a good girl, who didn't do nothing wrong," said Mary.

"[She] struggled and went all the way through school, graduated and everything. She even went to school to be a probation officer. Why would somebody do something like that to her?" said one of Clark's cousins.

"She very likeable in this community. She's a non-violent person. She didn't hang out 'with the bad crowd, she never go out like that," said Clark's uncle, Tylrico Clark.

Mary says Clark was working at Aramark on the catering staff at East Carolina University.

Co-workers say Clark graduated with an associate's degree in Criminal Justice from Pitt Community College. They say Clark was working on her bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Fayetteville State University's through a special partnership program with PCC.

Clark's family believes there are at least three people are responsible for killing their family member.

Police say the shooting is under investigation.

Family and friends will be putting on a candlelight vigil for Clark on Wednesday, Aug. 21st at 7pm on the corner of 14th and Tyson Street in Greenville.  You can find a link to the Facebook event here.
