CARTHAGE, N.C. -

The Moore County Sheriff's Office said a 25-year-old bus driver has been arrested under multiple charges related to sex crimes involving a minor.

Moore County Sheriff Neil Godrey said his office was contacted by a concerned parent of a 16-year-old on Sept. 7. The parent said their child had sexually explicit messages on their phone, some were received before the child turned 16.

The sheriff's office determined through an investigation the messages were sent by a male bus driver for Moore County Schools.

On Thursday, Moore County School Police and members of the Moore County Sheriff's Office arrested Troy Jareau Thomas, of 375 Gaines Street in Aberdeen.

Thomas was charged one count of felony indecent liberties with a child, one count of felony soliciting a child by computer, and one count of sexual battery, according to authorities.

Thomas received a $75,000 bond and his first court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 30 at the Moore County District Court.
