NC woman shot in head; son, girlfriend charged

VALE, N.C. - Authorities in Catawba County have charged a 17-year-old man and his 16-year-old girlfriend with attempted murder after the man's mother was shot at her home.

The Catawba County Sheriff's Office says Daniel Rhoney and Elizabeth Fowler are being held in the Catawba County Detention Facility in the shooting of Sherri Rhoney.

Daniel Rhoney is being held under a $1 million bond. Fowler's bond is set at $500,000. It's not known if either have an attorney.

Sheriff Coy Reid said off-duty deputies with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office found Sherri Rhoney lying in front of a home near Vale on Wednesday. The deputy said Sherri Rhoney was bloody and had been shot in the head.

Investigators say the assault appears to be the result of an argument between mother and son.
