Mt. Olive College now offering graduate degrees

Posted: Updated:
MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. -

Students seeking a graduate degree will soon have another college to choose from in North Carolina.

Mount Olive College is now accredited to offer graduate degrees. The College made the announcement Friday. They received the official notification from its accrediting body, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

According to SACSCOC, Mount Olive College is now a Level III institution, which means that it is authorized to award a limited number of graduate degrees.  Also by SACSCOC Board action, Mount Olive College is authorized to deliver full degree programs online.

Mt. Olive initially started as a two-year institution, then became a four-year, and is now offering graduate programming. "This also reflects a logical progression of our outreach to the nontraditional market from offering seated courses at all of our locations to offering a selected number of courses online: now we have the authority to deliver entire degree programs online," said President Philip P. Kerstetter.

The College says they have been working towards this goal since the spring of 2011.

"All of this has been made possible because of the visions and dreams of many, coupled with a great deal of planning and work by all," said Kerstetter.

"A graduate level program will give students the ability to expand their career opportunities. Further, the MBA program will provide qualified undergraduate alumni the opportunity to continue their academic careers at an institution with which they are familiar and personally connected," said Dr. Ronald Pressley, dean of the Tillman School of Business.

The College will offer its first MBA program beginning in January 2014.  The 30 hour program will be offered completely online.

"The landscape of higher education is changing as a result of new technology and the resulting changes in students' learning styles," Pressley stated.  "By offering programs online, they become more easily accessible to working professionals who travel frequently, to members of the U.S. military, and to others who, for whatever reason, cannot drive to campus on a regular basis. The mode of delivery is a result of market demand, which we are continually evaluating."

For more information about the MBA program at Mount Olive College, email at mba@moc.edu, or call 1-855-MOC-GOAL. An online application is available at www.moc.edu/apply.
