DURHAM, N.C. -

More than 1,200 people packed into a Durham church Sunday to call for immigration reform.

The event was organized by Durham C.A.N (Congregations, Associations, and Neighborhoods). More than 20 organizations were represented at the rally, which was held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

The group was made of up immigrants, business leaders, religious leaders, school officials, and elected leaders both on the state and local level. U.S. Representative G.K. Butterfield and Representative David Price were also in attendance and pledged their support for immigration reform.

Most of the conversation centered around Senate Bill 744. The bill tightens border security but allows an easier path for immigrants to obtain citizenship.

Supporters say it's all about keeping families together.

"This shows it's not something that's impacting immigrants, it's impacting businesses, religious groups, it's impacting everybody in this community and we need the system to be reformed now," said event organizer Ivan Parra.

The bill passed the Senate and is now waiting a House vote.
