RALEIGH, N.C. -

Gov. Pat McCroy has ordered that flags be lowered on state facilities in tribute to victims of the shootings at the Washington Navy Yard, the governor's office said Tuesday.

Flags will be flown at half-staff until sunset Friday as a mark of respect for the victims of the Washington Navy Yard mass shooting.

A gunman killed 12 people, including a University of North Carolina graduate from Fayetteville, in a rampage Monday morning before being killed. It was the worst attack in the national capital since Sept. 11, 2001.
