Ceremony marks opening of Campbell medical school

Posted: Updated:
BUIES CREEK, N.C. -

Gov. Pat McCrory is leading a list of state and local leaders scheduled to speak at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine.

The ceremony is scheduled for Thursday. School officials say it's the first new medical school to open in North Carolina in 35 years.

Officials say the school is designed to develop community-based primary care doctors who will work in rural areas or regions with little or no health care options.

Campbell University President Jerry M. Wallace is also slated to speak.
