Another hole-in-the-wall robbery in Pitt County

Posted: Updated:

It’s a familiar story. Robbers cut a hole in the wall and take off with cash.

Another business in Pitt County has fallen victim to the scheme. It happened a little after 10pm Tuesday at “Worldwide Wireless” on West 14th Ave. in Greenville.

"This wasn't a break-in. It was a heist,” said store owner, Chris Yelverton.

Wednesday he woke up to a call from the business owner next door. His store had been robbed.

"He said they came from the bathroom. I said the bathroom? I'm thinking somebody camped out in the bathroom right after I closed or something. We get here and there's a giant hole in the wall,” said Yelverton.

The robbers broke through an outside fence, cut through the back of the building and smashed through the sink.

"They go straight up in the ceiling, disable the alarm, come out of the bathroom and go straight to the money,” said Yelverton.

The robbers were smart.

"They knew exactly what they was doing when they got here,” said Yelverton.

But they weren’t that smart. What they didn’t realize was the whole thing was caught on tape. Cameras rolled as two men rummaged through the store for nearly an hour and a half. It was an organized effort. At one point you can see one of the men stealthily sliding tools across the floor, earning him the nickname “Peyton Manning” from store employees.

"He quarterbacked the whole thing. He ain't say nothing. He’s just telling the other man things using hand gestures. They're sliding tools across the floor…he ran the offense real nice,” said Yelverton.

The robbers even unbolted the store’s ATM from the ground.

"This wasn't their first rodeo. They've done this I'm pretty sure a few times,” said Yelverton.

Thousands of dollars worth of electronics and equipment were left untouched. The only thing they were after was $5,000 in cash.

“You work hard to get what you got and then somebody just comes through the wall and takes it all. You know, it's crazy. Especially when you got ADT and cameras and bars and locks and they come in through the wall? What? That's why I say it was a heist. They could have hit a bank if they wanted to, I believe…They've got to be stopped. They might come to your place next, you know?” said Yelverton.

Investigators are still working to solve this case and several others with a similar MO. If you have any information call the Greenville Police.
