Alison Krauss to miss Bluegrass Festival

RALEIGH, N.C. -

Alison Krauss will be unable to perform as part of the "epic collaboration" set planned for Friday, Sept. 27, during IBMA's Wide Open Bluegrass Festival at Red Hat Amphitheater.

Krauss was recently diagnosed with a vocal condition called dysphonia and will require rest, and thus will not perform at Wide Open Bluegrass next weekend. A quick recovery is expected.

The performance will continue with the previously announced lineup of Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Béla Fleck, Del McCoury, Tony Rice and Mark Schatz. Tickets for Friday's schedule are nearly sold out; it was announced last week that no tickets remain for Saturday's shows at the Red Hat Amphitheater/Raleigh Convention Center.

IBMA's World of Bluegrass 2013 event consists of three main parts:

  • the Business Conference  runs Tuesday through Thursday, Sept. 24-26
  • the 24th Annual International Bluegrass Music Awards, scheduled for Thursday evening, Sept. 26
  • and the music festival – Wide Open Bluegrass – which takes place Friday and Saturday, Sept. 27-28.

IBMA – the International Bluegrass Music Association – is the professional trade organization for the global bluegrass music community. This is the first year the festival has been in Raleigh after being in Nashville last year.
