A family of six was displaced after a house fire on Raiford Street in Selma Saturday morning.

Chief Philip McDaniel, with the Selma Fire Department, said when firefighters arrived on-scene around 6 a.m., the fire was already out of control.

The Selma Police Department and Selma Fire Department, along with several neighbors, helped excavate the occupants of the house.

There were 10 people in the house at the time of the fire, which occupants and neighbors say started on the back porch.

Authorities could not confirm where the fire started.

The Red Cross is assisting the family with temporary housing.
