Rays fans celebrate the post season in St. Pete

Posted: Updated:
ST PETERSBURG, FL - The day started with dark clouds over Tropicana Field, an ominous sign after the Rays dropped two games on the road in Boston. But by the afternoon, the sun came out, and so did the fans. They packed Central Avenue in front of Ferg's sports bar, excited for game three of the series against the Red Sox.

"We're celebrating the Rays, hoping they're going to take a game here at home," said season ticket holder Barbara Creech. Creech has been to 30 games this season. She wears a Rays jersey and a visor, covered in autographs.

"I probably have about 10. I have James Shields from when he was a rookie," she said.

Creech is disappointed the team didn't win on the road, but she's optimistic about their chances at home.

"I think they're going to win," she said. "My prediction was they's lose two in Boston, come here and win two, and then I don't know," she said.

Plenty of Boston Red Sox fans also came out to Ferg's. Phil Leger is a Boston native who moved to Tallahassee three weeks ago.

"We drove down here when we saw Tampa was going to be playing the Sox here," he said. "We got tickets right away, so we could have a home game at the Trop."

Those may sound like fighting words, but Leger says Boston fans have a long history of supporting their team, no matter where they're playing. And he had his won predictions about the outcome of the game. He thinks the Red Sox will end the series with a win at the Trop.

"I was just telling that guy right there, that he said he went to a Sox game and people are rude, but it's in your blood. I can't think of a family member who hasn't been a Red Sox fan for their whole life," Leger said.
