Louisiana teen charged in Pine Forest terror threat

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

A 14-year-old boy in St. Rose, La., has been charged with terrorizing and is being held on a $100,000 bond, the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office confirmed Wednesday.

On Oct. 6, the St. Charles and Cumberland County sheriff's offices began investigating the Louisiana teen for making threats of mass violence at Pine Forest High School in Fayetteville.

"Once  questioned by officers the juvenile allegedly admitted to making the threats in order to see the reaction of the students in the chat room," St. Charles officials said. "The juvenile obtained the students names from a social media account to make them think the threat was real."

Investigators were made aware of the threat Saturday via citizens' complaints after seeing the messages on Facebook and Twitter.

A person claiming to be a student at the high school said he planned to bring a gun to the school on Monday and shoot several students.

"I am going to shoot up the school, and then kill myself," the purported student wrote.

The Facebook post indicated that the threat may stem from bullying.

"You have tormented me in school for long enough," he wrote. "This is over."

Officials tracked the source to the boy in Louisiana, and officials said the teen said it was just a joke on Facebook and Twitter that went too far. The boy's father turned him in to authorities Sunday afternoon.
