Furloughed U.S. employees protest in Raleigh

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

Some Raleigh-area federal employees who are not working  because of the government shutdown held a protest march Thursday from Moore Square to the Terry Sanford Federal Building on New Bern Avenue.

About 30 people turned out for the rally on a damp Thursday morning. The United States government has been shuttered since Oct. 1 while Congress and President Barack Obama try to reach a funding agreement.

The local members of the American Federation of Government Employees want Congress pass a "clean" funding bill and allow federal employees to return to work.

"We are calling on Congress to pass a clean funding bill and stop the lockout now. We've been locked out for nine days now and we want to go back to work so we can continue to provide the vital services the American people count on," AFGE District 4 National Vice President Joseph Flynn said in a statement.
