School suspends teen for helping intoxicated friend

Posted: Updated:
NORTH ANDOVER, MA -

A Massachusetts high school student was suspended from school after trying to give her intoxicated friend a ride home from a party.

WBZTV reports Erin Cox received a text message from a friend asking for a ride home. When Cox arrived to the party, so did police. Officers began arresting teens for underage drinking, including Cox, who was later cleared.

But school officials at North Andover High School suspended the honor student for five days and stripped Cox of her of her title as captain of the school's volleyball team.

The Cox family filed a lawsuit against the school, but the school is sticking to its punishment.
