Oregon football to wear pink for Kay Yow Cancer Fund

Posted: Updated:

The University of Oregon's football team, which is known for its colorful uniforms, will join the

Raleigh-based Kay Yow Cancer Fund in the fight against breast cancer this weekend when they wear pink cleats, socks, gloves, and custom bold pink helmets.

Oregon, which is ranked No. 2 nationally, plays Washington State on Saturday.

Nike and Oregon will also auction a limited number of the pink helmets to raise support for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. All funds from the auction will be donated to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

At kick-off on Saturday, five helmets will be released each day for five consecutive days, including autographed versions by University of Oregon coach Mark Helfrich and Oregon legends Dan Fouts, Joey Harrington, Ahmad Rashad and Nike founder Phil Knight.

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was founded on December 3, 2007. Yow, the longtime women's basketball coach at N.C. State, died of breast cancer in 2009.
