Mother, boyfriend charged with killing child

Posted: Updated:
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Authorities accuse a mother and her boyfriend of killing a 17-month-old girl through abuse.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says the baby's mother, 22-year-old Jade Butler, and 23-year-old Antonio Cathey are both charged with murder and felony child abuse.

Police say officers responded to the home Friday night after getting a call about an unresponsive infant. One-year-old Kyiemani Brewer was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

After consulting with the Medical Examiner's Office, detectives say they believe the baby was physically assaulted, causing her death.

Police arrested Butler and Cathey on Saturday.
