Coast Guard searches for boater in NC Sound

Posted: Updated:
EDENTON, N.C. -

The Coast Guard and North Carolina officials are looking for a man who reportedly fell overboard from a boat in Albemarle Sound near Edenton.

A 25-foot response boat from Coast Guard Station Elizabeth City, a North Carolina Wildlife crew with a side-scan sonar from the Hertford Police Department and a North Carolina Marine Patrol crew resumed their search Monday morning.

A motorist driving on the NC Highway 32 bridge told the Coast Guard late Sunday morning that they saw a person fall overboard from a 39-foot boat about a quarter-mile offshore. Another person found the boat with just a dog aboard.

The Coast Guard broadcast an alert for other boaters to watch for the missing man. An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Elizabeth City and a Chowan County Marine Police boat assisted in the search on Sunday.
