Lenoir County Man Shoots Brother After Argument

Posted: Updated:
LAGRANGE, NC - A Lenoir County man is dead and deputies say it was his brother who shot him.

Lenoir County 911 call center received a report of a shooting at 5825 Little Wiggins Road, LaGrange Sunday at 8:00 p.m.

Deputies found Davis Brent Wiggins, age 35, deceased in the home near a side entry door.  The victim was shot in the neck with a .357 caliber revolver.

Officials identified the shooting suspect as Scott Wiggins, the victim’s brother. Scott Wiggins was home when police arrived and cooperated with law enforcement during the investigation.  The two bothers lived next to each other on Little Wiggins Road. They got into an argument earlier in the evening, which escalated when the victim walked over to his brother’s home to continue the argument.

The brothers engaged in a physical fight within Scott Wiggins home. Their wives attempted to break the brothers apart and to get the victim to leave the home. Once the victim was outside the home the wives blocked him from re-entering.

That is when Scott Wiggins retrieved his handgun and fired a warning shot to get his brother to leave.  This only inflamed the victim causing him to charge into the home past the two wives toward Scott Wiggins.  Scott then reportedly fired one round striking his brother in the neck.  Both the victim’s wife and Scott Wiggins attempted CPR, but it was too late.   The victim was not armed with any weapons during the incident.

No charges have been filed.  The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney for review.   The body was taken to Lenoir Memorial Hospital and an autopsy will be scheduled. The victim is believed to have alcohol in his system.

Sheriff Hill stated, “It is a sad and tragic day when you have one family member killing another.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Wiggins family.”
