SPRING LAKE, N.C. -

Authorities in Spring Lake are investigating a fire at Town Hall Wednesday, Nov. 13 as suspicious.

Around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Spring Lake Fire Department responded to town hall at 300 Ruth Street after a complaint of a strong odor of gasoline. After further investigating the smell, firefighters discovered a smothering fire on a section of the building's roof.

Crews put out the fire and later determined that the fire appeared to have been intentionally set.

Spring Lake Police is interested in speaking to the driver of a dark-colored crew cab pick-up truck that was seen near town hall around 4:30 a.m. the morning of the fire.

The cost of damage to the building is estimated at $10,000.

Fire officials are investigating the incident as a possible arson case and are asking anyone with information to call the Spring Lake Fire Department at 910-436-0350.
