RALEIGH, N.C. -

About 800 claim packets have been mailed to people who say they were sterilized under North Carolina's Eugenics Program.

The State Center for Health Statistics estimates that 7,600 people were sterilized between 1929 and 1974 and that more than 1,300 of victims may still be living.

Earlier this year, Gov. Pat McCrory signed legislation that gives $10 million to compensate those affected by the program.

The Department of Administration is accepting claim forms until June 30, 2014. You can look at and read the claim form and instructions here.
