Teens caught breaking into Greenville cars

Posted: Updated:

Greenville Police say Tuesday night December 3 around 10:30, officers were conducting covert surveillance in the Lake Ellsworth neighborhood following the break-ins of several cars there the previous night. The officers saw two teenaged males break into a Mercedes sedan and remove a backpack from that vehicle, and then enter a Honda CRV.  At that point officers approached the males and apprehended them in the act.

Detectives from the Property Crimes Unit responded to the scene and arrest warrants were obtained for Deon Staton, 19 years old of Greenville for 5 counts of Breaking & Entering a Motor Vehicle, and 5 counts of Larceny from a Motor Vehicle.

Juvenile Petitions will be obtained for a 15-year old accomplice for the same offenses.

Deon Staton was jailed under a $100,000 secured bond at the detention center.  The juvenile was released to a guardian.

The cases remain under investigation, and additional arrests may take place in connection with other recent break-ins.
