A new face has joined the experienced WNCN weather team, with Alyssa Corfont debuting with Chief Meteorologist Wes Hohenstein and meteorologist Bill Reh.
Corfont combines a keen interest in weather with a passion for connecting with viewers on social media. You can find her on Twitter at her handle, @weatherAC. She will give weather reports on weekends and be out in the community often during the week.
Corfont has been intrigued by weather since winning an umbrella decorating contest at her local "Rain Day" Festival as a child.
Corfont attended Pennsylvania State University where she not only earned a degree in Meteorology, but also minored in dance. Maybe - just maybe - she'll be a dancing meteorologist one day.
Her first job was in Monroe, La.
"The weather was fierce, the bugs were huge and the food was phenomenal," she said.
From Louisiana, she moved to WSLS in Roanoke, Va., where she guided her viewers through tornadoes, flooding and major snowstorms. As a powerful derecho ripped across Virginia, leaving thousands without power, Corfont calmly delivered reports and forecasts that helped her station win an Edward R. Murrow Award. Her favorite assignment while in Virginia was covering the landfall of Hurricane Irene from the North Carolina coast.
Corfont is originally from the southwest corner of Pennsylvania. She enjoys cheering on the Pens, Pirates and Steelers but above all she loves to cheer on the Penn State Nittany Lions. She realizes the passion for college teams and is excited for basketball season in the Triangle.
When she is not forecasting the weather for central North Carolina, she enjoys traveling, shopping, exercising, and playing with her very spoiled puppy, Bella. Corfont and her fiancé are extremely happy to call Raleigh home and look forward to exploring all the area has to offer.
