NC not getting brunt of winter storm

RALEIGH, N.C. -

A winter storm warning is in effect for some areas, including Danbury, Eden and Yanceyville, where a mix of freezing rain and rain were expected through the late afternoon.

The freezing rain and sleet come courtesy of a powerful storm that's moving from the west into the Mid-Atlantic states and farther north.

In the Triad, including Winston-Salem and Greensboro, an ice storm warning was in effect until midnight with accumulations of up to a quarter of an inch possible.

In places including Chapel Hill, Lexington and Creedmoor, a freezing rain advisory was in effect until early evening, when temperatures were forecast to rise.

A freezing rain advisory also was in effect until evening for the mountains and foothills, including Asheville, Statesville and Hickory. Light ice accumulation is forecast in those areas.
