NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A mother was charged with attempted first degree murder after shooting her own son.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies were called to respond to a reported shooting Nov. 30 on Pond Drive in Wilmington.
"Yes, I've been shot," said Thomas Bello when he called 911. "It is serious! I've got blood all over the floor."
Thomas Bello told authorities his mother went to his house to visit when he heard a loud "pop" near his head. When he turned around, Bello says he saw his mother, Elizabeth Bello, pointing a gun at him.
The sheriff's office said a fight ensued and the gun was fired again.
"She shot me in the arm," he told 911 operators. "It was a handgun - a revolver."
Thomas Bello said he got the gun away from his mom, called 911, ran downstairs to put the gun in the garage, and then sat in front of the closet door so his mother couldn't get the weapon.
You can hear Thomas Bello pleading with his mom in the background of the 911 call.
"Mama, please! Just sit down," he repeatedly said.
According to the sheriff's office, Thomas Bello was shot in the shoulder and hand and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Elisabeth Bello was charged with attempted first degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
