CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT)- A home in Carolina Beach was destroyed by a fire in the early hours of Saturday morning.
When Geoff Guy awoke, the next-door residence was covered in flames and his home was dangerously close to the fire as well -- 415 Oceana Way was engulfed in flames.
"I've just never seen anything burst into flames that fast and it just roared," Guy explained. "It roared like you see on TV with the forest fires and everything."
After the fire, nothing was left of the house except for the steel support beams of the infrastructure. Two vehicles inside of the house's garage were also destroyed.
Guy said that his home sustained damage that could total thousands of dollars as well.
Other neighbors said they were afraid of the damage their own homes might sustain too.
"There were embers floating all over and you're afraid something else was going to catch on fire or somebody's house," explained Chuck Aldridge, a neighbor.
Fire officials said they were just happy that nobody was injured during the blaze.
"When something like this takes place, there's so much potential for collapse and embers to start a fire and other firefighters get hurt, but thank goodness we didn't have any civilians at home at the time," said Captain Kenny Athing of the Carolina Beach Fire Department.
Athing said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Guy said that the homeowner of the destroyed house live in Charlotte, NC.
