Smarter Living: Battling the holiday bulge

Let's face it, most of us will overindulge on our favorite holiday foods over the next couple of weeks. Some will even throw out their exercise routine because they can't find the time.

In this installment of 'Smarter Living,' personal trainer Bekah Morgan explains why taking too much of a break can lead to excess weight gain, plus some quick circuits that can be done just about anywhere.

Weight gain is very common around the holidays and most people just assume they'll shed the pounds once the season is over, but Morgan says there are better options out there.

"The better plan is to prevent the weight gain from happening in the first place," she says.

She says it's important to stick with your regular workout routine, even if that requires some modifications.

"That might mean getting up earlier and getting your workout in before your crazy day even starts."

Morgan says that doing certain circuit exercises for just a few minutes a day can ward off unwanted pounds and give you more energy.

She suggests triceps dips, planks and squat jumps.

"Consistency is the key. That is how you're going to change your body and that's how you're going to stay on track," Morgan says. "The more you do it, the stronger your body gets."
