ECU Football arrives in St. Petersburg

Posted: Updated:

The Pirates arrived in St. Petersburg, Florida today with one single focus...win the Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl.  It seems like we've been previewing this bowl game for weeks but things finally got real here tonight.

ECU had their first practice in St. Petersburg as they prepare for their opponent from the MAC Conference, Ohio. The Pirate coaching staff turned their focus from recruiting to the Bobcats last Saturday and they haven't looked back.

Wednesday was their last day in Greenville and today was a travel day for Coach Ruff and the boys. After going through the airport and checking into the hotel they finally got to hit the gridiron tonight.

It's an important practice for East Carolina being just 4 days away from the game and Coach says he likes what he sees.

For that interview as well as video of their arrival and practice check out 9 On Your Side at 11:20 p.m.

I would argue we live in one of the best places to cover football. At the high school level our teams always win state championships, then you get to see many of those players excel in college.

On a night when star senior receiver Justin Hardy snared a pair of touchdown passes and became East Carolina's all-time leader in receptions, it was a pass he threw that will be remembered as the highlight of the 2014 season-opener Saturday night at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
