DURHAM, N.C. -

Two people were killed in a head-on crash on Highway 98 in Durham County Friday morning.

Highway Patrol said the accident happened around 5:50 a.m.

A Dodge pick-up truck driven by Robert Breeden III, of Raleigh, was traveling west on N.C. 98 when he drifted left of the center line. Breeden's truck hit an Isuzu driven by Jorge Avalar, 43, of Durham.

Avalar and his brother, 47-year-old Andreas Avalar, died as a result of the crash. They both lived at 237 Rudy Ridge Drive in Durham.

A witness who arrived shortly after the accident said Jorge Avalar appeared to be dead on the scene and Andreas Avalar was barely alive.

The Highway Patrol initially said alcohol was suspected in the crash, but that further investigations the "impairing substance" was not alcohol.

Breeden is charged with two counts of felony death by motor vehicle.

Breeden's father refused to comment when reached by WNCN. No one answered at the home of the Avalar brothers in Durham.

Breeden's speed at the time of the accident has not been released.
