Duke students end up in the wrong Fayetteville

Posted: Updated:
DURHAM, N.C. -

Many would be disappointed if a planned Christmas vacation in one city, ended up with you stuck in another.

But not two college students from Duke University.

They expected to visit Fayetteville, North Carolina, but ended up states away - in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

"It's a beautiful place. We never would {have thought of} spending three weeks here. A lot of people are like, 'What are you doing in Fayetteville?'" said one of the students.

Good question, because they were never supposed to be there.

Cassie Yuan and Florence Tesha are both freshman at Duke. Their families live abroad, so, "We both couldn't go back home for Christmas, so we thought we should do something for fun," said Tesha.

They had a friend book them plane tickets to Fayetteville, but instead of Cumberland County, they ended up in the other Fayetteville about a thousand miles away.

"First I was like, 'OK, this place is different,'' said Tesha laughing. "And I didn't know how it was going to turn out but it has just been surprising me every day. Like the people, the place, the food. I just love it so much," Tesha added.

"We've seen a lot," said Yuan.

"It has been a big adventure," added Tesha.

The duo's friendship has grown during the experience too. And instead of getting out on the next flight home--they decided to stay for weeks---until spring semester starts up.
