NC Turnpike Authority to use new approach to collect unpaid tolls, fees

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

The North Carolina Turnpike Authority is using a three-phased approach to work with drivers who use the Triangle Expressway and to help resolve unpaid fees.

Letters were sent out in November to drivers who have an outstanding balance for using the Triangle Expressway. N.C. Quick Pass sent out the letters in groups, based on how much the customer owes.

Customers who owe more than $500 have a payment deadline of Jan. 31.

Those who owe $300 to $499 have a payment deadline of Feb. 28 and those who owe $299 or less have a deadline of April 1.

In-state customers who do not pay their bills could have their vehicle registrations put on hold.

Beginning April 1, any delinquent account (past 90 days) with an amount greater than $50 will be automatically sent to collections and vehicle registration placed on hold. After six months of no collection results, customers will be sent to the Department of Revenue and tax refunds could be garnished.
