Goldsboro man charged in convenience store armed robbery

GOLDSBORO, N.C. -

A Goldsboro man is facing several charges in connection with an armed robbery at a convenience store in Wayne County.

On Jan. 11, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office received a report of an armed robbery at the Short Stop on N.C. Highway 111 South.

Wayne County Deputy Michael Biggins was in the patrolling the area for a suspicious person report. The deputy spotted the suspect and vehicle. The suspect then led the deputy on a chase for several miles before apprehending the suspect.

Authorities charged David Edwards Smith, 55, with robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony flee to elude arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving as well as a list of other traffic offenses.

Smith is being held on a $315,000 secured bond.
