Solar Panel Scammer faces additional fraud charges

Posted: Updated:
BEAUFORT, N.C. - Deputies have served an additional fraud warrant on man who turned himself in on Tuesday.

43-year-old Stacy Ellis Bland, who was wanted in Carteret and Beaufort counties on fraud related charges, was taken back to the Carteret County Jail. Bland was additionally served with another felony count of Obtaining Property by False Pretenses.

The Carteret County Sheriff's Office says that Bland is accused of collecting money from victims under the false pretense that he would purchase and install “solar panels” in their respective residences. He's accused of taking money from his victims and failing to perform the jobs.

The newest charge against Bland stems from him scamming a Beaufort resident out of $12,000 that he collected over a year ago without preforming any of the work. A previous victim from Morehead City gave Bland $10,000 in October of 2013.

Bland faces the same charges in Beaufort County for obtaining money by false pretenses after collecting money for solar panel work which was never completed.

Bland's bond was increased to $30,000. He's still in the Carteret County Jail.

If you have been a victim of the Solar Panel Scam, please call the Carteret County Sheriffs Office, 504-4800, or your local law enforcement agency.
