Schools prepare for the flu

We know the flu often spreads faster in our schools than anywhere else. Health officials say that it hasn't been bad in area classrooms yet, but they're still taking precautions.

Vidant Medical Center is working to make sure school nurses know exactly what to look for.

"Our nurses are on the look out for flu like symptoms," said Terry Joyner, the Manager of the School Health Program. "Certainly rapid onset, fever, sore throat, and aches. The flu tends to be a very quick onset and you start feeling really bad, really quickly, so it's pretty easy to have an idea if that's what's going on."
