Fayetteville authorities said six pets died in a house fire that displaced three people Thursday night.
The Fayetteville Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 908 East Russell Street around 7:15 p.m.
Upon arrival, emergency crews found a single story wood frame home with heavy fire and smoke showing, authorities said. Fire fighters assisted two occupants from the home.
A total of six pets died in the fire, authorities said.
The two occupants assisted from the home were checked out by EMS but were not transported to the hospital.
It took fire fighters around 20 minutes to control the fire.
The American Red Cross is assisting three adults displaced by the fire. Authorities said the structure appears to be a total loss and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Family members say the man who fired the shots was not the same Andrew Jay Michaelis they knew.
