3 arrested in synthetic pot bust at Raleigh convenience store

RALEIGH, N.C. -

Alcohol Law Enforcement busted a Raleigh convenience store Tuesday for selling synthetic marijuana.

Special agents with ALE arrested three people Tuesday after receiving complaints that Capital Food Mart, located at 2929 Capital Blvd., was selling synthetic marijuana.

"We take complaints of ABC-permitted businesses selling illegal drugs very seriously in North Carolina," ALE Director B.W. Collier said. "These problem, ABC-permitted outlets are ALE's first priority."

The owner of the store, 44-year-old Manisha Yogeshkumar Patel of Cary, is charged with selling synthetic cannabinoids, possessing with intent to sell and deliver synthetic cannabinoids, and maintaining a building for the purpose of keeping and selling a controlled substance.

Patel is also charged with possessing with the intent to sale less than 100 unauthorized sound recordings which did not contain the true name or address of manufacturer, unauthorized possession of spirituous liquor, and possessing for sale any alcoholic beverage without first obtaining the applicable ABC permit and revenue licenses.

Employees Karanjit Singh Sahota, 30, and Ami Natvarlal Patel, 29, were also arrested on charges of selling synthetic cannabinoids, and possessing with intent to sell and deliver synthetic cannabinoids.

The arrests came after agents seized multiple packages of synthetic cannabinoids, four bottles of spirituous liquor, four bottles of unfortified wine, 90 counterfeit CDs and $493 in United States currency on Jan. 14.

Synthetic marijuana became an illegal schedule VI controlled substance in June 2011.
