Raleigh DWI checkpoint results in multiple charges

RALEIGH, N.C. -

The Raleigh Police Department said 43 law enforcement officers took part in a DWI checking station early Saturday morning that resulted in multiple arrests.

The checking station was conducted in the 2400 block of Glenwood Avenue between 12:30 a.m. and 3 a.m., police said.

Raleigh police reported the checking station resulted in the following charges:

  • 18 driving while impaired violations;
  • 4 driving after consuming while under 21 violations;
  • 1 aid & abet driving while impaired violation;
  • 3 driving while license revoked violations;
  • 2 no operator license violations;
  • 4 other non-moving traffic violations;
  • 3 drug law violations;
  • 4 other criminal violations; and,
  • 2 pending arrest warrants were served on suspects located during the project.

Representatives from police departments in Apex, Cary, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Holly Springs, Wake Forest, and Wendell participated, along with law enforcement officers from the N.C. State Highway Patrol, the NCSU Police Department, and the Wake County Sheriff's Office, according to Raleigh police.

Law enforcement on scene was able to use a Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) Mobile, and the Wake County Magistrate's Office provided an on-site magistrate to support the operation.
