8 ways to get ready for swimsuit season

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) - To be featured in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue is a rare honor.

The majority of us would be satisfied with looking fit and healthy. Chris Alberts is the owner of Sweatshop Urban Gym and Fitness in Tampa.  Alberts says you have to work out correctly to tone and build muscles.

"Cardio-respiratory exercise is very important for fat loss, but you also want to tone your muscles as well.  So, when people think about swimsuit-ready or toning that body to look good in that swimsuit, you've got to do muscle development," said Alberts.

Carlee Beveridge knows all about that.  She was a ballerina for twenty years.  Beveridge has always been fit, but wants to run in the Gasparilla 5K, so she set a goal.

It gives you something to look forward to, but it also allows you to set a goal,” Beveridge said.  “Not everyone looks like those models do, they have to work out and work out a lot more than we do as normal people.  But it just gives you a goal, it's always good to have a goal.  It pushes you a lot harder.">

Trainer Christine Myers has always pushed to attain her goals.  A lifetime martial artist, who also played soccer and softball growing up, Myers says varying your workout has beach body benefits.

"I think cross training is awesome, because if you just do one thing all the time, you plateau,” Myers said.  “If you change it up all the time, you're going to challenge your body in different ways and you'll see improvement."

We don’t want to neglect our male readers, who also want to look good at the beach.  Camilo Moya is trying to gain weight, not lose it.

“You have to eat excessively.  And especially if you have a fast metabolism,” Moya said.  “For someone like myself, it can be pretty difficult to do that.  But, it you're dedicated enough, if you're focused, determined.  If this is something you really want to do, you're going to go for it."

Perhaps the most important tip for weight loss and fitness is to have fun, because loving the process is part of liking the results.
