GREENVILLE, N.C. -

Akeem Richmond scored 31 points, including 15-of-15 free throws, to lead East Carolina to an 81-71 victory over Texas-San Antonio on Saturday.

Caleb White added 18 for the Pirates who shot 50 percent from the field and made 29 of 33 free throws.

East Carolina (13-11, 2-7 Conference USA) led UTSA 33-25 at the break and increased the lead to 19 points with 8 minutes left in the second period before the Roadrunners executed a 20-7 run and cut the lead to 67-62 with just 3 minutes remaining.

UTSA used a fouling effort to close out, but the Pirates made all 14 free throw attempts down the stretch to fend off the Roadrunners.

Texas-San Antonio (7-15, 3-6) was paced by Keon Lewis with 16 points.

East Carolina has won two of its last three games, climbing out of the sole cellar position in the conference.
