SELMA, N.C. -

Six people were transported to an area hospital after they were involved in a head-on collision Sunday in Johnston County.

A spokesman for the county said the collision, which involved three vehicles, occurred around 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of South Pollock Street and the US 70 East bypass in Selma.

Johnston County spokesman Steve Little said a vehicle was traveling south on Pollock Street when the driver saw another vehicle coming towards him in his rear view mirror, and he could see the driver was slumped over at the steering wheel.

The vehicle with the slumped driver hit the first vehicle from behind before swerving off of the roadway and then back on, hitting the first vehicle again. The vehicle with the slumped driver then crossed over three lanes of traffic and hit another vehicle head-on.

Six people were transported to WakeMed for treatment of injuries, two of whom had serious injuries.
